Declared a protected area within the Ticao-Burias Pass Protected Seascape by the Republic Act 11038, Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018 (ENIPAS 2018), which states: “It is hereby recognized that these areas…possess common ecological values…incorporated into a holistic plan to conserve and protect our natural heritage.”
As a private entity, ongoing bird, wildlife, and marine conservation programs at Malaomawan Island, led by Silliman University, a leading academic institution in terrestrial and marine conservation, are recognized, respected, and harmonized with ENIPAS 2018.
No public access to all areas of Malaomawan Island, including sandbar. Prohibited acts carry fines and penalties enforced and prosecuted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region V, as well as the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) of the Ticao-Burias Pass Protected Seascape.
